This week i am starting “Super Bankruptcy”. This is a big refresh on the engine bay and the suspension, which will involve quite a bit of work.
I’ll be removing the current master cylinders for the clutch and brakes, deleting the servo, and filling all the holes. Replacing that lot will be the OBP Pedal box that I bought a couple of weeks back. Will it fit? probably not straight off, but with a bit of trimming and welding I’m hopeful of getting a decent result that doesn’t limit my leg space. In conjunction with the new brakes, i’ll be putting in a hydro handbrake, supposedly for skids, but if i will ever actually try to slide her after putting all this work into her is debatable. I’ll also re do all the brake lines, the last ones were fitted with the engine in, and are not mounted the best. With the engine out i’ll be able to mount them well and hide them away properly.
Engine bay will need a respray to make it look all tidy again after all the welding and filling. luckily I know a very good painter , although he may well invoke sarcasm against me, and he would be justified, most cars get the 1 coat of paint, the one the manufacturers give it, This will be the 3rd time Dave will have put some yellow in my engine bay….. but this time should be the last (as long as i get everything back in with out bangs, dents scrapes and scratches )
While the engine is out, I’ll do the water reroute to clean up the front of the engine, and improve cooling to cylinder 4. Fabricate up a hall sensor bracket for the crank angle sensor and swap the front belts, cam seals again as there seems to be oil seeping out of the ones i fitted last year *sulk* new CDF cam pulleys.
Also will be swapping the current TEC2 ECU mounted on the firewall for a Megasquirt 3 mounted in the footwell. So while the engine is out i’ll take the opportunity to make a nice fresh tidy wiring harness and route it nicely, wrap it all up in conduit and self amalgamating tape.
And all the subframes and wishbones will be getting swapped for the reconditioned set which i fitted the IL Motorsport bushes to at my last visit to Autotronix Developments.
Will i get all this done in one week? doubtfull looking at the list above and knowing how much fabrication work i will need to do for some of the pieces, and there are always parts that get missed off the prep list and end up getting ordered late, and causing delays. but maybe a few weekends later and she’ll be ready for some tuning at Clives place and then a trip to South Wales for a new hood and Japfest 2012 on the MX5Nutz stand.
